Java on Red Oak is considered a Dark Stain. This finish is well suited for interiors with plenty of natural light or when a bold contrast is desired, such as pairing darker island cabinetry with lighter perimeter cabinets. Red Oak’s distinctive, open grain pattern adds depth and character, allowing the rich Java stain to create a warm, dramatic, and sophisticated appearance. For dark stains, we recommend wood species with naturally pronounced grain features, such as Oak, Cherry, or Walnut, as they showcase the depth and beauty of the finish.
Red Oak is a strong hardwood known for its long, linear grain and subtle ray fleck patterns. It may occasionally feature small pinholes and tight knots, adding natural character to the wood. Its coloration ranges from light golden blonde to richer, deeper tones. Flat-sawn Red Oak displays a different grain pattern compared to quarter-sawn cuts, offering a more traditional, open grain appearance.
Red Oak is a popular choice for opaque finishes, including Ultimo® Tinted Varnishes. When a tinted varnish is applied, the natural grain still subtly shows through both visually and to the touch, enhancing the depth and texture of the finished surface.
