Brittany with Chocolate Glaze on Alder is considered a Dark Stain. These finishes are most suitable for interiors with lots of light, or when high contrast is desirable, such a s between the perimeter and the island in the kitchen. We recommend choosing a wood species with darker or varied grain features, such as Cherry, Oak, or Walnut for dark stains, as those species take the stain better than others.

Alder is a soft hardwood with a fine, straight grain and even texture. Color is light brown with a yellow or reddish tinge. When you compare alder’s heartwood with its sapwood, there is insignificant color difference. Alder does not evolve in color or darken when exposed to light or heat as other woods do. Alder takes stains and finishes well. It is one of the softest hardwoods so it can be damaged easily. Some small tight knots can be found with standard Alder.Alder is available on some doors in a “Rustic” variety which will incorporate knots and other figured details of the wood into your cabinetry. Not all door styles are available with this modification, so check with your designer before requesting Rustic Alder.
